Graham Dean Fly Fishing

Lake Fishing - Lake Taupo...

Lake Taupo is a very large and deep lake, the usual method is to fish the stream mouths that enter the lake, but in Spring (October - December) the smelt which is the main food supply in Lake Taupo, move into the shallows to spawn. Cruising trout follow the smelt along the shallow crystal clear bays - very smiliar to Bonefish fishing.

We also have 3 small Hydro lakes.

Lake Kurutau & Lake Rotoaira...

Kurutau and Rotoiara are great fisheries that produce fish up to 4ib, with Rotoaira turning up the odd surprise.

Lake Otamangakau...

This small hydro lake produces some of the largest wild trout we have caught anywhere, the largest of these being a 34inch 17.5lb rainbow. The food in the lake is insect based so casting small nymphsa and dry flies on very long leaders is the most successful method.

The brown trout fishing from the shore offers some great sight fishing for larger brown that cruise the margins. This lake is also famous for its cicadas hatch with a little breeze these insects end up on the surface of the lake, some of the rises can be seen 100 yards away - the opportunity for that fish of a lifetime.
